President Tebboune delivers message on 64th anniversary of Independence, national sovereignty restoration
ALGIERS - The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, delivered a message on Saturday on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of Independence Day and the restoration of national sovereignty (05 July 1962).
Following is the full text of the message:
"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Prayers and peace be upon the noblest of Messengers.
Fellow citizens,
On this fifth of July, we proudly celebrate National Independence Day, that glorious and historic milestone through which the proud Algerian people crowned, with dignity and honor, decades of the glorious popular resistance that had endured for more than seventy-five years since colonialism first set foot on Algeria's proud soil.
It also crowns the struggles of our forefathers, the builders of our enduring national school, and the vision and genius of the November Generation of free revolutionaries.
The price was immense, paid in the blood of 5,630,000 martyrs. That generation of courageous heroes, whose arduous national struggle forged an unshakable resolve, marched in triumphant columns from every region of the homeland to the mountains, forests, valleys and vast plains across Algeria's sacred land, one wave after another, for the sake of the homeland's dignity, and inspired by the noble aspiration to attain martyrdom as a sacrifice for its timeless glory.
History records the struggle of the Algerian people during the blessed Liberation Revolution as one of the great epics immortalized by heroism and sacrifice, bearing witness to the tragedies and suffering they endured for more than seven years while confronting a vindictive settler-colonial regime, resisting with steadfastness and faith the madness of scorched-earth policies and the horrors of mass killings and widespread destruction.
The authentic and resilient Algerian people bore immense sacrifices for the sake of Algeria's dignity, and history will forever preserve the chapters of an epic revolution that was a true testament to a towering Algeria and to a people forged in dignity and honor.
As we commemorate the sixty-fourth anniversary of the restoration of our national sovereignty, reaffirming our duty to safeguard the national memory and paying tribute to the sacrifices of the honorable resistance fighters throughout every stage of our struggle, the pioneers of the National Movement, and the martyrs of the glorious Liberation Revolution, we are profoundly mindful of the everlasting loyalty they instilled in the hearts of Algerian women and men toward the November Declaration and the sacred message of the martyrs.
We take immense pride in the fact that the spirit of the New Algeria, built by sincere national wills, springs from the faithfulness to the covenant of the righteous martyrs.
We remain confident that the people embracing the victorious Algeria, with its sovereign orientations and unprecedented achievements, are determined to continue the path of reform and to strengthen comprehensive and sustainable development, and fully aware of the strategic challenges of this stage to place our country, in the near future, on the threshold of the world's emerging countries.
As we commemorate this immortal anniversary, which coincides with an important constitutional milestone in the process of building a genuine democracy,
I wish to commend the efforts made to ensure the successful conduct of the legislative elections held two days ago.
Those efforts helped foster fair and transparent democratic competition throughout the electoral campaign and enabled citizens to exercise their electoral right in an atmosphere of calm and under the best possible conditions.
On this occasion,
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the proud Algerian people, at home and abroad. I also convey my deepest appreciation and respect to my sisters, the Mujahidat, and my brothers, the Mujahideen, and join them in praying for the souls of our righteous martyrs.
