Diaspora hails President of the Republic's attention to their concerns (ROUNDUP)

ALGIERS - Members of the national community abroad commended the special attention that the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has consistently devoted to addressing their concerns, which has deepened their attachment to their homeland and contributed to their strong involvement in the national development process and the reinforcement of state institutions.

The significant participation of the national community abroad and their notable turnout at polling centers for the election of members of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) on July 2nd, 2026, represents an opportunity to reaffirm their connection to Algeria, in light of several gains adopted by the President of the Republic in their favor.

This electoral milestone comes in the context of a series of measures and policies adopted by the President of the Republic, with a view to deepening the ties between the diaspora and the homeland and facilitating their integration into various national pathways.

In this regard, one key development stands out, which is the increase in the number of seats allocated to electoral districts abroad in the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament), ensuring broader representation and greater alignment with the growth of the diaspora and its distribution across various countries around the world.

This measure reflects the political will to involve Algerians living abroad in national decision-making. Algerian voters in the legislative elections have unanimously stated that increasing the number of seats reserved for the diaspora in the People’s National Assembly from 8 to 12 reflects the commitment of the President of the Republic to ensuring that their voices are heard and that their concerns and aspirations are conveyed more effectively.

They also commended the financial support granted by the state to young candidates on independent lists abroad, similar to their counterparts in Algeria, describing it as a practical incentive encouraging youth participation in political life and public affairs management.

On this occasion, many members of the diaspora noted that the benefits of recent measures in their favor have become tangible on the ground, whether through enhanced parliamentary representation, improved access to administrative and consular services and their digitalization, or the inclusion of national competencies abroad in development efforts, thus encouraging stronger engagement in this effort.

According to feedback from various capitals around the world during the July 2nd legislative elections, the measures taken by the President of the Republic in favor of the national community abroad have served as a strong incentive to contribute to enhancing the democratic process in the country and reinforcing a culture of political participation.

The President of the Republic has emphasized, on several occasions, that the Algerian community abroad is a key partner in the national development process, stressing the importance of valuing their skills, benefiting from their expertise, and preserving the cultural and civilizational ties that connect them to their homeland.

This commitment was recently demonstrated through the establishment of the High Council of the National Scientific Community Abroad, which members of the diaspora consider a strategic step toward unifying Algerian talents abroad.

According to many diaspora members, this council represents added value that could open new prospects for cooperation with universities and international institutions, enabling scientific partnerships, research initiatives, and the transfer of modern expertise and technologies to Algeria, in addition to creating a permanent communication network among Algerian experts abroad.

Measures taken in favor of this category have also included facilitating travel to the homeland, particularly by strengthening air and sea transport during the summer season and revising several regulatory travel procedures, alongside ongoing efforts to improve reception conditions at various border crossings.

Among the major achievements for the diaspora is the opening of branches of the Banque Extérieure d’Algérie in France, facilitating money transfers and access to housing loans for Algerians residing in that country.

In this regard, several measures aimed at encouraging members of the diaspora to invest in Algeria stand out, achieved by improving the business climate, providing support mechanisms for project holders, streamlining procedures related to business creation, and opening new investment prospects across various productive sectors, thereby enabling the country to benefit from the expertise and skills of Algerians residing abroad.

Strong participation in the electoral process, as expressed by members of the national community abroad, remains both a constitutional right and a national responsibility, advancing the democratic process and consolidating trust in state institutions.

This national event also represents a civilizational message affirming the deep attachment of Algerians to their homeland and their belief in its future.
