Unanimous endorsement of Ambassador Amar Bendjama as the next ECOSOC President

New York (United Nations) – The Group of African Ambassadors in New York has unanimously endorsed Ambassador Amar Bendjama, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, as the next President of ECOSOC, in a strong demonstration of unity.

This historic decision was reached yesterday, Thursday, during a meeting of Permanent Representatives chaired by the Permanent Representative of Malawi, in her capacity as Chair of the African Group.

Ambassador Bendjama is set to officially lead the Council from late July 2026 through July 2027, following his election by all member states during a meeting scheduled for July 23.
