President Tebboune honors top achievers of BEM and Baccalaureate exams

ALGIERS - President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired an award ceremony at the People's Palace in Algiers on Wednesday to honour the top-ranking students of the 2026 Middle School Education Certificate (BEM) and Baccalaureate exams.

For the Baccalaureate, the President of the Republic honored the top three students nationwide: Gueroumi Bouchra Hibat Allah, of the "Shahid Bouzira Ahmed" high school in Tiaret, who ranked first nationally in the technical-mathematics stream with an average of 19.26; Yakine Nasrallah, of Tébessa, a student at the Mathematics High School in Kouba (Algiers), who placed second with an average of 19.21; and Zineb Doaa Saal, of the private institution "El Massir" in El Achour (Algiers), experimental sciences stream, who ranked third with an average of 19.16.

Among the Ashbal Al-Ummah schools, the President of the Republic honored Guedrez Ziad, of the Ashbal Al-Ummah school in Béjaïa, who topped the experimental sciences stream with an average of 18.97; Riham Tasnim Guessab, of the Ashbal Al-Ummah school in Blida, second in the mathematics stream with 18.86; Youcef Abderraouf Messaoudane, of the Ashbal Al-Ummah school in Batna, third in the mathematics stream with 18.81; and Aya Ben Said, of the Ashbal Al-Ummah school in Blida, fourth in the mathematics stream with 18.71.

In the category for students with disabilities, the President of the Republic honored Abdelbasset Meroush, from El Oued province, first in the mathematics stream with 17.56; Duaa Belkout, from Beni Ourtilane, in the experimental sciences stream with 17.44; and Ahmed Fouhal, from Batna province, third in the mathematics stream with 17.05.

Meriem Khelfa, top student from the Algerian International School in France, was also honored, with an average of 17.38 in the experimental sciences stream.

For the Middle School Certificate (BEM) examinations, the President of the Republic honored the top students nationwide, led by Ikhlass Guiya, of "El Allama Khelifa Ben Hassen" middle school in El Oued, first nationally with an average of 19.80; followed by Rana Mezerdi, of "Larbi Bedjaoui" middle school in Biskra, with 19.65; and Basmala Boubidi, of "Mohamed Ben Boulaid" middle school in Batna, with 19.60.

In the disabilities category for the BEM, the President of the Republic honored Mohamed Amine Ben Chaaban, of El Khroub (Constantine), with an average of 18.85; Meriem Bouzara, of Tissemsilt province, with 18.38; and Malak Rabbaj, of N'Gaous (Batna), third, with 18.10.

Nassiba Aarour, top student from the Algerian International School in France, was also honored, with an average of 18.42.

Following the ceremony, the students who won various international competitions of the Mathematics Olympiad honored the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, expressing their pride and gratitude for his keen attention to mathematics education.

The event concluded with the honored students taking a group photo with the President of the Republic.

Opening the event, Minister of National Education Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui thanked the President of the Republic for his personal patronage of the ceremony, calling it a powerful incentive that fosters serious, sustained competition in academic achievement and a determination to succeed, praising the President of the Republic's commitment to making schools a space for education and intellectual growth, backed by the full mobilization of resources.

The Minister stressed that this year's strong exam results reflect the high level of coordination among State institutions across sectors, noting the stability that marked the school year and the completion of curricula under normal conditions as key factors behind the results.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, the honored students told APS they were proud to be recognized by the President of the Republic, praising his continued attention, encouragement and support for education.
